My Story
In my teenage years I sat in awe listening to my aunt tell me about the birth of her children, twins, at home. After the typical years of self discovery I was shadowing a doula and within a few births knew that I was going to one day be the Midwife. The medical field had seemed enticing to me, constantly learning, changing and challenging. The profession of a Certified Professional Midwife was a perfect fit for me. Pregnancy and birth in its natural state, overseeing the physiologic process to ensure all is going as it should. It is beautiful every single time.
I had the unique privilege of working with 12 different Midwives during my schooling. It was gift to be able to see and be involved with that many different practices. Fresh off of passing the NARM examination and gaining my Idaho license to practice I headed off for Juri, a little town Bangladesh. I worked as a Midwife there at an NGO for eight months. From there I worked for a different NGO in Humla Nepal, doing more teaching and training. It was an experience I’ll never forget and did much more than just getting my feet wet as a new Midwife.
After a year away I came back and began a practice and a family. My two children were born at home, one on land and the other in water. Both Midwives I had still mean so much to me and I deeply value that shared time and space I had with them. Being born and raised in the same area that I am now practicing and raising my children is great. Through my work I continue to meet the finest that Southeastern Idaho has to offer and feel extremely lucky to have found Midwifery so early in life.
